![]() ![]() The Regency period has become quite popular. ![]() Julie Klassen’s attention to historical detail is an integral part of her novels, and The Maid of Fairbourne Hall is no different. As a fan of historical fiction, I also appreciated learning about the lives of servants during the Regency period. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters in this novel, as well as the humor, romance, and suspenseful twists and turns in the plot. As Margaret works, she learns about herself, about the difficult lives of the servants, and also about the master she thought she knew. Margaret must bluff her way through tasks she’s never faced, while also keeping her identity a secret from her master. Margaret is blessed to find work in a fine manor, but the manor is the home of a former suitor, one that she rejected. But when Margaret’s step-father plans to force her into a terrible marriage situation, Margaret flees her home and finds refuge in the role of a house maid. Margaret is a spoiled young lady who has always taken her servants for granted. In her most recent story, The Maid of Fairbourne Hall, Klassen tells the story of Margaret Macy. I have enjoyed all of her novels, which are set in Jane Austen’s England (a search of our site in that box on the right sidebar using her name will yield reviews of her past books). Julie Klassen is one of my favorite Christian fiction authors. ![]()
